Blue plaques for the digital age

What is the Electronic Civic Council?

The ECC wants to put the sharing of civic and historical information into the hands of citizens.

Blue plaques

If something interesting has happened in a building, such as a band's first gig or a novelist's birth, we often have to rely on some vague organisation to decide to put up a plaque for it.

But not any more. Now we have plenty of tools at our disposal to alert other people to information about a place.

This sharing of historical information is what the ECC would like to encourage.

How can I get involved?

Help spread the hashtag!

We want the hashtag #bp to become a common way to denote historical information.

Foursquare, Gowalla, Plyce …

To leave your gems of historical information on geo-location services such as Foursquare, simply add the hashtag (#bp) to your comment. If you can, also leave a link to further information.

We can't guarantee aggregating them all, but simply using the tag will encourage others to do the same.

Join the community

Ok, so there isn't much of one yet.

But you can find us on Facebook and Twitter if you want to help us start it.

Who's behind this?

Well now, that would be telling. Shhh.

What on earth is going on with that logo?

It's based on the letters ECC (the first 'c' is in negative), a brick wall and a blue plaque. And it was conjured up in 20 minutes, so cut it some slack.
